Royal Resorts® Caring for the Community

A Cancun pioneer, Royal Resorts® is a company that cares. With strong ties to the community, it is a tireless supporter of many local charitable causes and conservation campaigns. Now, through the Royal Resorts Foundation (Fundación Royal Resorts, A.C.), it is seeking more ways to give something back to the community, help those in need and protect the environment.

We know that as Royal Resorts members you love Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean and regard it as your home away from home. Many of you have formed lasting friendships with the resort staff that look after you year after year and with local families. You may be looking for ways to help the community you feel so connected to and the area that has given you so many magical vacation memories over the years.

April is Earth Month

April is Earth Month

Global warming, deforestation, pollution, dwindling wildlife populations, poisoned rivers and oceans…the problems facing our planet are immense. It is up to all of us to do what we can to protect it. April is Earth Month and around the world special events such as tree planting, beach cleaning, light bulb replacement, recycling drives and garden projects have been taking place, reaching a peak in the days leading up to and after Earth Day, April 22. It’s time to work together for a sustainable future by pledging an Act of Green to protect the planet. Take a look at some of the ways you can make the change to a greener lifestyle.

  • Recycle, Recycle, Recycle
Buy products in returnable and recyclable containers and reuse and recycle as much as you can. Recycle plastics, glass, tin, aluminum and other metals, paper, clothing and more.
  • Switch to reusable stainless steel or aluminum water bottles and stop buying water in plastic bottles.
  • Say no to plastic bags
Instead of plastic or paper bags, use cotton or nylon shopping bags.
  • Use chemical-free household products.
Environmentally friendly cleaning, soaps and laundry products made from natural ingredients are now widely available. Make the change and help reduce water pollution and our reliance on chemicals.
  • Recycle paper at home and in the office and consider switching to digital editions of newspapers, magazines and books you can read on your tablet or smart phone.
Switching to recycled paper toilet tissue, kitchen rolls and napkins helps save trees, protect fresh water supplies and reduce chlorine pollution.
  • Switch to energy saving bulbs and timers and turn off the lights when you leave the room. Unplug electrical appliances after use. Dishwashers and dryers are two of the most household appliances that use the most energy, consider whether you really need to use them. Make sure your heating and air-conditioning systems and refrigerator are all adjusted to the correct temperature.
  • Save water by installing water-saving nozzles on all taps including showers, and check pipes for leaks. Use cold water for washing where possible. If you are going to water your garden, do it in the evening and use rainwater or grey waste-water.
  • Compost food scraps and garden waste.
  • When designing a garden, incorporate plants and trees that attract bees, butterflies and birds
  • Consume more fruit and vegetables and less meat. Buy certified organic or farmers markets produce.
  • Purchase organic clothing and clothes that are ethically made
  • Walk or bike wherever possible instead of using your car.
  • Join a car pool or use public transport where possible.
  • Make sure your car tires are inflated to the correct level, by doing this you are using less gas.
  • Campaign for investment in renewable energy alternatives such as solar, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal power.
  • Why not participate in community initiatives such as beach cleaning, reforestation, urban garden projects, wildlife protection and environmental education in your hometown and even when you are on vacation.
  • Support conservation and sustainable development causes around the world.

Help the Royal Resorts Foundation Protect the Mayan Jungle

This Earth Month, we invite you to support the Royal Resorts Foundation conservation cause: Protecting the Mayan Jungle

The Royal Resorts Foundation is participating in a regional initiative to preserve four million hectares of tropical forest in the state of Quintana Roo. An important green lung and renowned for its biodiversity, the Mayan Jungle is under threat, as is its other hidden treasure, the underground rivers and cenotes that are the only sources of fresh water in the area.

Our 2012 goal is to raise $30,000 US for the preservation of 5,000 acres of jungle. With your generous support, we can protect the forest and its wildlife, keep area water sources clean for future generations and fight climate change.

Vacation Activities in Support of the Royal Resorts Foundation

Vacation Activities in Support of the Royal Resorts Foundation

By participating in several craft workshops available at the Resort Activity Centers guests can support the Royal Resorts Foundation. They include Recycling Art, the creative use of waste materials at The Royal Haciendas, and Finger Painting at The Royal Sands and The Royal Caribbean.

There’s an artist in all of us and Finger Painting offers guests the chance to spend the morning oil painting ceramic tiles with two talented artists from Palenque in Chiapas and Tabasco. These cousins learned their craft from their grandfather and have been decorating tiles for over 18 years.

The session starts with a lesson on mixing colors, the finger painting technique and how to follow the design. Under the watchful eye of the master who oversees quality control, everybody can produce a beautiful souvenir of their Mexican Caribbean vacation.

Every design is different and each tile contains a fragment of the artist’s soul and a commitment to the Royal Resorts Foundation causes. If you would like to participate, the workshops are held at The Royal Caribbean on Thursday and at The Royal Sands on Friday, both from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., poolside.

Our Recent Donors

Our Recent Donors

We would like to thank Monda and Sagalkin S., members at The Royal Islander, who donated $1,000 US to the Royal Resorts Foundation during their recent vacation to support our cancer and conservation campaigns. Monda has fought her own battle with cancer and is an active campaigner and fundraiser in Maryland and Sagalkin is a keen conservationist.

An interview with them and a video testimonial will be posted on this page in the days to come. Additional thanks go out to Jennifer R. who donated two cribs and Barbara M. who generously gave scholastic materials to the Mano Amiga School.

Royal Resorts employees are also rallying to the cause and are using the collection boxes by the staff entrances to the resorts or donating more significant amounts as was the case of Juan José A.

If you would like to make a larger donation to the Royal Resorts Foundation, it may be possible to arrange visits to the Mano Amiga School at Ciudad de la Alegría or meetings with the representatives of the other organizations supported by the Foundation. If this is the case, please write to: contact@royalresortsfoundation.org
